SHORTCUT TO WEEK 3: DAY 1 - DAY 2 - DAY 3 - DAY 4
WEEK 3 - DAY 2
WHY DO I LOVE IF I’M A CHRISTIAN?
Before we watch the following video clip from “The Count of Monte Cristo,” let me give just a little background in case you’ve never seen the movie. The scene opens with Dantes, recently escaped from a prison, and wakes up on a beach. He realizes he is now a free man and begins to celebrate, only to run into a crew of pirates. Hopefully that’s enough for now so, enjoy the video clip…
Questions:
1. Why is Jacopo so grateful to Dantes?
2. Why does it seem proper for Jacopo to make such a strong and selfless commitment to Dantes?
READ 1st John 3:16-18
3. How could our commitment to Jesus be similar to Jacopo’s commitment to Dantes?
4. Why do so many Christians not feel the urgency and passion to Jesus that Jacopo feels towards Dantes?
5. Do you agree with the follow statement. “The more real and personal Jesus’ death is to you, the more joy and passion you will love your fellow Christians with.” Explain your answer.
6. How can personally understanding Jesus died not only for you but also for you brothers and sisters in the faith, help you to love them how he desires for them to be loved?
READ 1st Corinthians 6:19-20 & Galatians 2:20.
7. What truth are these verses proclaiming?
8. What does that mean in your own words?
CLOSING EXPERIENMENT:
Take the next 5 mins or so, and try to memorize 1st John 3:18. Read it then say it. Read it then say it. Once you have it set to memory, write a way you can put this into practice this week.
Then do it!
I’m praying for you and thankful for you! I can’t wait to see all the ways we love each other as a church this week!
What was your major takeaway today?
